Psalms 5:3 "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly".
Reflections: History Repeats Itself
Bethel Baptist Church was organized in 1936 and elected Rev. F. H. Harden as its’ first pastor. Two years later Rev. Harden became seriously ill and had to give up pastoring the church. When this happened, the people all quit the little church, turned in their keys and everything that belong to the church. Rev. Harden died on February 17, 1939 and on February 29, Mrs. Harden called two of the persons that had quit the church and asked them to go to Albany with her to put the church back in the Association. Mrs. Georgiana Randolph asked if they could ask Rev. B. S. Stinney to come and preach for them the first Sunday in March.
Rev. Stinney came and preached for the next twenty seven years. When he became ill and resigned, many of the members quit the church as before.
Rev. Stanley was called, came and preached for thirty years and retired. Again, there were members that quit coming.
Rev. Cobbins answered the call and preached from September 1997 until July 11, 2003. When he left, so did some of the members.
Rev. Eric S. Shaw was installed as the fourth pastor of Bethel on December 12, 2004. He led the church for twelve years, resigning on December 30, 2016. On the day that he made the announcement, there were members who said they would be leaving. the church.
While this is unfortunate, it has happened each time a pastor left. We pray that members will not leave, that they will stay and help work through these difficult times.
Bethel has survived eighty years of good times and bad times and pastors and members coming and going. We are confident that “this place called Bethel is indeed the house of God” and regardless of who comes and who goes Bethel will survive.

BETHEL CHURCH PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father
We, the members of Bethel Baptist Church come to you in holy submission asking you to hear our prayers. We come to you in need of your loving touch, in need of your healing power and in need of your joy. We come to you in the Mighty Name of Jesus the Christ asking you for forgiveness of our transgressions against you and each other. Help us to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as Christ forgave us. Lord we seek your guidance as we enter into our season of patience for your deliverance of another Pastor. We thank you for the Shepherds you have provided for us over the years. We thank you for their leadership and guidance. Father God we ask you for unity within our church and create in us a clean heart. Please Father God, remind us that although we are many members we are one body in Christ. Plant this in our hearts and minds so that we may hold firm to your spirit and your word.
Heavenly Father we ask you to touch us so that we remain at peace with ourselves and with one another during this season. Help us to maintain peace in your house and our homes so that we may hear and feel your Spirit. Lord, grant us your perfect peace so that we may know your will for Bethel Baptist Church. Father your word in Mark 9:50 says “Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another”. Help us to come in peace and go in peace always lifting each other up in the mighty name of Jesus and if we disagree or there is strife amongst us let us lean to your word and understanding to resolve any and all issues. Father God, as we go through this season we ask you for direction and guidance and that you order our steps, our hearts and our minds. Help us to seek your wisdom and include you in every action and step we take during this season. Light our path so that we find your truth and your will for Bethel Baptist Church and please find favor in our request.
And Heavenly Father, keep us humble and gentle so that we may find patience in one another as we wait on a word from you. Your word in Psalms 5:3 says “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly”. Grant us the Patience of Jesus, the Peace of God and the Power of the Holy Spirit during this season. Father God, help us to work together in love as one body in Christ and honor the name of Jesus. Keep us in your loving arms and send your angels to protect us as we wait expectantly and joyfully for your blessings. This is our humble prayer and we ask this in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
